Can’t wait for your Christmas Day lunch? With the holidays just around the corner it’s important to remember those less fortunate, who won’t be tucking into a delicious feast this December 25. In fact, there are 8.4 million people in the UK who don’t even know where their next meal is coming from…

That’s why Coca-Cola European Partners has teamed up with charity FareShare and Co-op to join the fight against hunger with their new Christmas promotion.

Coca-Cola European Partners have been working with FareShare since 2014 – united in their desire to tackle hunger and food waste – helping provide nourishing meals and food supplies to the UK’s most vulnerable people.

This Christmas they are donating 1p from every 500ml Coca-Cola product and a minimum £25,000 to provide 100,000 meals to those in need.

“We hope this promotion will engage consumers, raise awareness of an important cause as well as raising funds to help provide thousands of meals to people in need.” — Nick Brown, head of sustainability at Coca-Cola European Partners

The campaign

When you pick up any 500ml Coca-Cola product between 15 November and 26 December from your local Co-op, Coca-Cola European Partners will donate 1p to FareShare.

Through this promotion, they have committed to donating £25,000 to the charity – equating to 100,000 meals for people in need.

“We are a long-standing partner of FareShare and are very proud to be working with Co-op this Christmas to support the amazing work this charity does to alleviate food poverty and tackle food waste,” says Nick Brown, head of sustainability at Coca-Cola European Partners.

“We hope this promotion will engage consumers, raise awareness of an important cause as well as raising funds to help provide thousands of meals to people in need.”

Who is FareShare?

FareShare is the UK’s leading food charity fighting hunger and food waste. They receive and redistribute surplus produce – that would otherwise go unused – from retailers, manufacturers and growers through 21 Regional Centres. They then send on these vital supplies to frontline charities and community groups which support vulnerable people.

FareShare helps to feed half a million people every week.

FareShare works in collaboration with over 6,700 charities – including homeless hostels and breakfasts clubs for disadvantaged children – which provide invaluable support and transform supplies from FareShare into nutritious, healthy meals.

“We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Coca-Cola for a new Christmas promotion with Co-op this year,”says Lindsay Boswell, CEO of FareShare.

“The money raised will enable FareShare to provide a further 100,000 meals worth of food to charities that support vulnerable people all across the UK, both at Christmastime and all year round.”

The partnership

Coca-Cola European Partners have been working with FareShare on a variety of projects since 2014.

Last year, their Snap To Donate campaign raised £83,000 – enough for more than 300,000 meals.

Coca-Cola European Partners also makes sizeable donations to FareShare by identifying surplus or unsellable stock and delivering the drinks directly to FareShare’s 20 Regional Centres across the country.
