Gavin Button and his wife Janice have twice announced baby news on social media with the help of a personalised set of Coca-Cola bottles.

Coca-Cola’s famous Share a Coke campaign sparked a sharing frenzy across the nation a couple of years ago, with hundreds of thousands of people sharing their stories, selfies and special moments with personalised Coca-Cola bottles.

Getting clever and creative with Coca-Cola bottles

One man whose imagination was ignited by the Share a Coke campaign was Gavin Button. Gavin’s Facebook feed had been inundated with friends and family getting involved with the #ShareaCoke trend, sharing photos of personalised Coke bottles. When Gavin and his wife Janice found out they were pregnant with their third child in 2015, he thought it would be fun to announce their happy news through the medium of a personalised Coca-Cola bottle.

Gavin says: “A lot of people were putting photos up so I wondered if anyone would notice if I put a bump one on there. I hadn’t told anybody our news at the time and just wanted to see if anyone noticed. Well, they did.”

He ordered a family of personalised Coca-Cola contour bottles from the Share a Coke online shop and posted a photo of the line-up – with the sneaky new addition of ‘Bump’ – on Facebook.

“It’s quite a big thing on social media to find different ways of announcing pregnancies but I hadn’t seen this one done before so it was quite original.” – Gavin Button

The response was hugely gratifying. Gavin and Janice’s friends and family loved their announcement post, with responses ranging from “Genius! Congrats” to “10/10 for originality Mr Button. Great news for u all”.

Gavin said a lot of people were surprised when they first saw his post – with social media flooded by Share a Coke personalised bottles, seeing the ‘bump’ bottle in amongst them really caught people’s attention.

He adds: “It’s quite a big thing on social media to find different ways of announcing pregnancies but I hadn’t seen this one done before so it was quite original.”

Another baby bump

Eighteen months later, when Gavin and Janice found out they were expecting again, Gavin wanted to continue the tradition by announcing the news with another personalised Coca-Cola bottle.

Gavin says: “I just wanted to see if Coca-Cola were still doing the bottles or if I could order one. I couldn’t find anything online saying they were but I thought I’d message them on Facebook. It was a real surprise - they came back to me and said that they really liked the original idea and when they offered to help me I was really moved.”

A little help from Coca-Cola

With the Share a Coke campaign over, we created a bespoke image for Gavin to share with his friends and family on Facebook – this time, Gavin, Janice, Rosie and Judah were joined by ‘first bump’ Isaiah and the new Bump.

Gavin was overwhelmed by Coca-Cola’s response: “You don’t know how likely brands are to respond to messages on Facebook so it was nice to get that sort of interaction.”

“I’ve still got the personalised glass bottles at home with the Bump on there so it would be good to get Isaiah and the new one on there if Coca-Cola do the personalised bottles to order again,” he added.

We can’t wait to find out what name they choose!
