Coca-Cola’s ParkLives initiative is all about making the most of your local park with fun and free activities. To celebrate Keep Britain Tidy’s Love Parks Week, we’ve put together ten of the top reasons why they deserve your love.
Love Parks Week celebrates our local green spaces to raise awareness of just how great they are, as well as the need to protect them for future generations. 57% of the UK population regularly use their local park, and we make 2.6 billion visits to them every year.

Parks provide the perfect backdrop to an outdoors life. Whether it’s for a leisurely stroll with the dog, a lunch break on a bench, a spot of sunbathing, or a game of rounders, spending time in a park is a great way to embrace a bit of nature and improve your mental wellbeing.
Drew Bennellick, Head of Landscape and Natural Heritage UK at Heritage Lottery Fund, said: “Our ancestors were prolific park makers and have left us a legacy of amazing historic parks, home to ornamental lakes, fountains, avenues, bandstands, monuments and promenades. Many of these beautiful examples of the UK’s rich heritage are supported and opened-up for all to enjoy with funds raised by National Lottery players. There’s bound to be a National Lottery-funded historic park near you!”
Riding a bike for the first time, spending quality family time, or even a first kiss; local parks are where memories are made. We can definitely recall some of our happiest times spent in a park with family, friends or pets.
Meet new people
With free events throughout the year, parks and ParkLives bring people together and create new friendships. Whether you fancy a social dog walk, outdoor yoga or open water swimming – there's something for everyone.
It doesn’t matter how big your family is, there’s always enough space for a family get-together in your local park. The whole family can pack up a picnic, grab some games and get away from the distractions of the digital world for a day of family fun. You could join one of the ParkLives Family Tennis or Yoga sessions.
Local parks are absolutely brimming with wildlife habitats and minibeasts just waiting to be explored and discovered. Grab a magnifying glass or a pair of binoculars and channel your inner David Attenborough.
Taking a walk through your local park is a great way to keep active, but it’s also hugely beneficial to your overall mental wellbeing. Even a short brisk walk in green space can help to clear your mind and set you up for the day. Swansea ParkLives even run Sunrise Beach Yoga sessions in Swansea Bay – what an incredible way to wake your body up!
Ange Pepper, a ParkLives session leader in Stoke-on-Trent, said: "Parks are the perfect places for people to visit if they want to try something different. This summer, as part of ParkLives we are launching several new sessions including themed table tennis sessions in partnership with the Ping programme, family activities such as pirate treasure hunts and family play days, as well as continuing to run our most popular activities too. Each session is completely free, suitable for all ages and abilities, and hosted by fully trained, friendly leaders and volunteers from the local area."
Councillor Anthony Munday, cabinet member for greener city, development and leisure, said: “We want our parks to be fun and welcoming places where all members of the community can go to enjoy themselves. Love Parks Week is a great opportunity to do this and the ParkLives sessions on offer allow us to spend time some quality time in our parks and try out new activities.”
