The Ultimate Trivia Question - Now Answered

5 Mar 2008

Q: HOW MANY BUBBLES DOES A CAN OF 'COKE' CONTAIN?
A: 18.9 MILLION

Have you ever idly wondered how many bubbles there are in a can of 'Coke'? Thought not. But someone at 'Coca‑Cola' has worked out the precise answer to this burning question after one curious member of the public posted the enquiry on Coca‑Cola Great Britain's new interactive information website www.letsgettogether.co.uk.

Question: Each can of 'Coke' has an exact amount of cola in it. Each can should be carbonated with the same amount of gas. So with this in mind... how many bubbles should be in each can of 'Coke'?

Answer: Each can is carbonated to 3.75 volumes. This means there is 1237.5 cubic millilitres of Carbon Dioxide in each can. The average diameter of a bubble (based on some work done on Champagne) is 0.5mm. The average volume of a bubble is calculated using 4/3πr3 . Therefore every can should contain 18.9 million bubbles (assuming all bubbles are the same size).

Have you got a question for 'Coca‑Cola', no matter how trivial? Now there's some place where you can find out the answer.
