Reduce and compensate for all carbon emissions

Minimising Coca‑Cola’s carbon footprint at London 2012

As a global company we are committed to growing our business without increasing our carbon footprint. At Games time, Coca‑Cola will map, measure and minimise our energy use and carbon emissions across every part of our programme.

Controlling our carbon:

  • Event Management: To help us asses and manage risks and identify opportunities, we are using a new sustainable event management system – called 'the BS 8901' – which provides independent confirmation of our sustainable approach.
  • Supply chain: We have already invested in a state-of-the-art low carbon warehousing and storage facility equipped with various energy-efficient technologies. It is partly powered by photo voltaic cells on its roof and uses ground source heat pumps to provide low-energy heating and cooling.
  • Transport: We have purchased a fleet of 14 biogas trucks - which run on your rubbish - for the delivery of our drinks to Olympic and Paralympic venues in the London area. Each vehicle has a carbon footprint half of that of a typical diesel truck. We will also use low emission vehicles for our Olympic Torch Relay transportation.
  • Equipment: Every Coca‑Cola cooler used in an Olympic or Paralympic venue will be Hydro Fluorocarbons (HFC) free. Travel: We will encourage our hospitality guests to minimise unnecessary travel and to choose more environmentally friendly modes of transport such as the Eurostar. As a project team, we are cutting our own transport footprint by prioritising video conferencing over flying.

Whilst our preference is to always avoid and reduce emissions where possible, we will compensate for any unavoidable emissions by purchasing off-sets, thus ensuring a low carbon presence at the Games.
