Promoting sport for all

Coca‑Cola to sponsor London 2012 Paralympic Games

Coca‑Cola and the Olympic Games

Coca‑Cola has strengthened its relationship with London 2012 by extending our sponsorship to the Paralympic Games.

This exciting new partnership will help us deliver our ambition to inspire more people to get active and help promote sport for all in the lead up to London 2012.

Facts about the Paralympic Games

  • The first Parallel Olympic Games – or Paralympic Games – were held in Rome in 1960 for athletes with physical disabilities, to coincide with Rome 1960 Olympic Games
  • Today, the Paralympics are elite sporting events which emphasise the participants' athletic achievements rather than their disability
  • The number of athletes participating in the Paralympic Games has increased from 400 athletes in Rome in 1960 to more than 4,000 athletes in Beijing, Qingdao and Hong Kong in 2008
  • The Paralympic Games have always been held in the same year as the Olympic Games

Coca‑Cola has been a proud supporter of the Paralympic Games since Barcelona in 1992. We have also been involved in the Olympic Movement since 1928.

Coca‑Cola is a strong supporter of London 2012’s Singapore promise which pledged to connect young people throughout the UK and across the globe through the inspirational power of sport, and aims to use its sponsorship of the Paralympic Games to get more young people active, regardless of their physical ability.
