The EKOCYCLE brand was awarded Creative Innovator of the Year at the prestigious WGSN Global Fashion Awards at The Park Lane Hotel in London last night. The Awards celebrate and reward breakthrough innovative talent in
fashion, design buying, and retail.

Judged by an elite panel of international experts, The Creative Innovator of the Year is a new category for the WGSN Global Fashion Awards. The EKOCYCLE brand was recognised for its pioneering journey and technologic advancement in using recycled materials to make desirable consumer products. The brand initially launched in the US in 2012, and arrived in the UK in March this year at an exclusive Shop-in-Shop in Harrods.

The brainchild of The Coca-Cola Company, and, the EKOCYCLE brand’s ambition is to educate and empower consumers to proactively seek out more sustainable lifestyle choices, by identifying everyday household products and recycling them into wearable and useable items within fashion and design. The result is an inspiring aspirational collection that challenges preconceived notions of products made from recycled materials. The brand has teamed up with some of the globe’s most  desirable brands to create an innovative lifestyle collection – from womenswear and menswear clothing to accessories and home interiors.

In April this year, the EKOCYCLE initiative also announced a partnership with W Hotels Worldwide, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. Together, they are bringing the EKOCYCLE™ brand to W Hotel rooms around the world. W Hotels will soon begin re-making their beds with new EKOCYCLE™ branded sheets, which are
made in part with rPET (polyester partially made using recycled plastic). Rolling out into W Hotels in North America first with global properties to follow, each king size sheet set utilised approximately 31 recycled 20oz. plastic bottles – which equates to more than 268,000 plastic bottles across all W Hotel beds in North America. The result is bedding that is as luxurious as it is environmentally conscious, ensuring that guests continue to have the same incredibly comfortable sleep they have come to expect from a night in a W Hotel bed.

Bea Perez, Chief Sustainability Officer at The Coca-Cola Company says, “The EKOCYCLE initiative aims to push the boundaries on more sustainable fashion and design – inviting consumers to experience sustainable luxury. We are delighted the brand is being recognized by WGSN, the globe’s most prestigious and influential
fashion and design network.”

Lauretta Roberts, Founder and Director, WGSN Global Fashion Awards says, ”EKOCYCLE will change the way the consumer regards sustainable design. It has taken sustainable fashion and placed it firmly in the luxury arena and, by collaborating with a carefully selected line-up of style leaders, has made it cool and highly desirable."
