  1. Is Coca-Cola good for using as a suntan lotion? It is often used like this in Brazil.

As much as we love Coca-Cola, we really wouldn't recommend using it in this way. There is no sun protection factor in it at all - it's a drink!

  2. I recently got an email from Coca-Cola saying I had won a lot of money. Is this a scam?

We've learned of several emails and letters which falsely claim that the recipient has either won a sweepstake or been randomly selected for a cash prize from The
Coca-Cola Company. The Coca-Cola Company is in no way associated with these emails, letters or programmes. We're currently investigating the situation and have found some common traits that can hopefully help you to identify a hoax letter or email.

The letters are written to look official and appear to come from a financial institution. They often contain a claim number and may even include a false cheque that appears to be from Coke or another Coca-Cola bottler. Other common signs include:

    • Spelling and grammatical errors in the email
    • Improper use of company trademarks
    • Sender's use of free, non-corporate email accounts (such as Yahoo!, AOL and Hotmail)
    • Requests for personal information and the promise of quick financial gain

If you have any doubts about an email you have received, please contact us via our freephone number: 0800 22 77 11 (Monday-Friday, 9pm-5pm).

  3. Is it true that if you leave a tooth/piece of meat/2p coin in a glass of Coca-Cola overnight it will totally dissolve?

This is a popular urban legend, and totally untrue. Coca-Cola will not dissolve teeth or meat overnight. There is a small amount of edible acid present in many foods, including fruit juices, buttermilk and soft drinks such as Coca-Cola, but these foods are not acidic enough to harm your body tissues - in fact, your own natural stomach acid is more acidic. These stories continue to spring up and get recycled because each new generation finds them hard to ignore, but they simply are not true.

Any food or drink that contains fermentable carbohydrates (sugars and starches), including calorific sparkling drinks, can play a role in the development of tooth decay. Also, any food or drink that is acidic has the potential to play a role in enamel erosion. Through good dental hygiene and other health practices, you can help reduce the risk of tooth decay and erosion. The best way to protect teeth is to brush them twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.

  4. Does Coca-Cola promote any particular religion?

The Coca-Cola Company is not political and we don't support individual countries, governments or political/religious causes. We take our responsibilities as a big company seriously and make frequent donations to charity. In the very rare cases when it turns out that the charity has political or religious goals we weren't aware of, we have removed our funding and ended our relationship with the charity in question.
