How is Coca‑Cola helping to make London 2012 the most sustainable Games possible?

Coca‑Cola is working closely with London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) to meet our shared ambition to deliver London 2012 sustainably.

The drinks we supply to the Games will be served in 100 per cent recyclable PET plastic bottles. Our Coca-Cola, Diet Coke and Coke Zero bottles contain up to 22.5 per cent plant-based material as part of our PlantBottle™ initiative.

We aim to turn every soft drink bottle recycled in an Olympic venue back into a new one within six weeks. In addition, we are using recycled materials extensively – from staff uniforms to menu boards.

We are ensuring our sponsorship of London 2012 is zero carbon by reducing emissions from our operations, and will compensate for the remainder by purchasing Gold Standard carbon offsets. We have invested in a state-of-the-art low carbon warehouse and a fleet of biogas vehicles – which between them are cutting the carbon of our distribution system for the Games by a third.
