Aspartame is a low-calorie sweetener. It's about 200 times sweeter than sugar and is used by food and drink manufacturers in a range of products including yoghurts, chewing gum and soft drinks.

Low-calorie sweeteners provide a sweet taste, with zero calories. At Coca‑Cola Great Britain, we use aspartame in combination with another low-calorie sweetener, acesulfame-K, to give a sweet taste to some of our drinks. This means people can choose to enjoy some of our most popular drinks with low- or no-calories, if they want to.

The most important commitment we make as a company is to deliver safe, high-quality products. All of our products and ingredients are safe. Numerous food and drink agencies around the world have reviewed aspartame and approved it as safe for use. In December 2013, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) reviewed aspartame as part of its ongoing work to re-evaluate all approved food additives - and confirmed it as safe.
