  4. Is Coca-Cola bad for your teeth?

Any food or drink that contains fermentable carbohydrates (sugars and starches), including calorific sparkling drinks, can play a role in the development of tooth decay. Also, any food or drink that is acidic has the potential to play a role in enamel erosion. Through good dental hygiene and other health practices, you can help reduce the risk of tooth decay and erosion. The best way to protect teeth is to brush them twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.

  5. Do Coca-Cola soft drinks contain artificial colours?

Yes, some of our drinks contain artificial colours, which are labelled as such on the product. As with all our ingredients, both the artificial and natural colours we use are approved as safe by European regulators following rigorous scientific testing.

We understand that there is a growing preference for natural colours, and we're constantly innovating to reflect this. For example, in Great Britain brands such as Fanta, Glaceau Vitamin Water and Oasis are all coloured with natural colourants.

  7. What are GDAs?

GDAs are Guideline Daily Amounts - how much sugar, fat, saturated fat and salt that can be consumed every day. These are listed on the label of all Coca-Cola drinks and help you make informed decisions about how you balance your diet. Because everyone's body and lifestyle is different, any nutritional information can only be a guide.

  8. Are Coca-Cola products bad for children?

Our products are safe for consumption as part of a balanced and varied diet. We do not market any of our products to those under the age of 12. We believe that, for children, it is appropriate for parents and carers to decide which drinks, how much thereof and how often they can be consumed.

Details on a balanced and varied diet for children can be found at the Food Standards Agency's Eat Well* site. Their Eatwell Plate model clearly shows the inclusion of soft drinks within a balanced diet.

  9. Do Coca-Cola's drinks contribute to obesity in children?

Obesity does not have a single root cause. It is complex and impacted by many factors. But, for most people, being overweight or obese is primarily the result of too many calories consumed, and not enough calories used in daily activities.

With children, as with adults, maintaining a healthy weight is a matter of balancing the calories you use up and the calories you take in. No one single food or drink alone is responsible for people being overweight or obese. All calories count, including calories from our drinks. We believe that all foods and drinks can have a place in an active, healthy lifestyle that includes a sensible, balanced diet and regular physical activity. It is important to manage children's consumption of soft drinks within a balanced, varied diet and an active lifestyle.

Coca-Cola provides detailed nutritional information on all our packaging and online so that parents can make informed choices about what their children drink. People who would like to reduce their consumption of calories from drinks can choose from our continuously expanding range of no/low calorie Coca-Cola products in both sparkling and still varieties. We also encourage regular physical activity through the programmes and activities that we sponsor, making it easier for children and young people to get involved in sports.
