What is PlantBottle™ packaging?
PlantBottle™ packaging is fully recyclable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic, which is party made from plant material.
It doesn't look or feel any different from a 'regular' plastic bottle, but it’s the next step towards Coca-Cola’s long term goal of creating truly petroleum-free packaging. We are currently working on making PET plastic packaging entirely from plant waste like stems, barks and fruit skins.
In Great Britain, our PlantBottle™ packaging is made from a mixture of materials: it contains up to 22.5 per cent plastic made from plant-based materials and up to 25 per cent recycled plastic. The remainder is plastic made from petroleum sources, which is the material of our ‘regular’ plastic bottles.
Our long-term aim is to produce recyclable plastic bottles that are made entirely with 100 per cent recycled and renewable raw materials – renewable resources are ones that will grow again and again, effectively reducing our dependency on fossil fuels and cutting our carbon footprint.
