What are the advantages of PlantBottle™ packaging?

PlantBottle™ packaging is fully recyclable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic, which is partly made from plant material. The advantages of this packaging are numerous.

Firstly, we use less fossil fuel making these bottles so they reduce Coca-Cola’s dependence on non-renewable resources. It’s the next step on our journey to making all our packaging truly petroleum-free.

Secondly, PlantBottle packaging turns waste into a resource. Currently, the plant-based part of this packaging comes from sugarcane-based bio-monoethylene glycol (b-MEG), but within the next five to six years we envisage the plant-based components will also come from waste such as fruit peels, bark and stalks. Our PlantBottle™ range in Great Britain also uses up to 25 per cent recycled plastic in each bottle – so remember, your empty bottle isn’t just waste: it can be used again and again through recycling.

Thirdly, because it is PET just like our existing plastic bottles, the PlantBottle™ packaging can be fully recycled along with other PET plastic bottles.
