Support in southern Africa
Helping young people learn about the role companies such as Coca‑Cola can play

Coca‑Cola helped British students and young influencers learn more about the challenges facing communities in southern Africa recently when the company supported an annual delegation to South Africa.
The young people taking part were all members of Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA), an organisation focused on helping the people of southern Africa campaign to build a better future.
The trip enabled this group to discover more about the local challenges and learn about the role companies such as Coca‑Cola can play in southern Africa through the work of The Coca‑Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF).
Did you know? The Coca‑Cola Africa Foundation has implemented 62 health initiatives across the continent, investing $9 million since 2007. Initiatives tend to focus on the areas of malaria and HIV/AIDS
"Being able to get involved with the vital work The Coca‑Cola Africa Foundation supports was a genuinely moving and effective experience for everyone involved," says Liz Lowe, Citizenship Manager at Coca‑Cola Great Britain, who accompanied the ACTSA group on their recent trip. "We learnt about the role Coca‑Cola plays as a major employer and contributor to the economy in southern Africa with the local Coca‑Cola bottler, and experienced one of the health outreach programmes supported by The Coca‑Cola Africa Foundation. It was genuinely inspiring."
Mark Beacon, ACTSA Campaigns Manager, said: "This year we have again seen a committed group of youth and student leaders not only return with a knowledge of southern Africa but a real passion and drive to campaign for rights and development in the region. We are immensely grateful to Coca‑Cola for their continued support for the delegation, which has become an important part of ACTSA’s work, enabling us to develop many fantastic ambassadors for development in southern Africa."
The ACTSA facts
- ACTSA is the successor organisation to the Anti-Apartheid Movement and works closely with UK trade unions, including the National Union of Students
- ACTSA believes strongly that multinational companies have a crucial role to play in the economic development of southern Africa, and that positive engagement with young people is the ideal way to work together to help
